光電子學二

Aim of the course:
This course mainly deals with the content in the second half of the text book “Fundamentals of Photonics”. In this second half, we will start from a brief introduction of atom energy levels and interaction of photons and atoms, followed by the concept of optical amplifiers. The operational principles of laser will be given thereafter. Then, we will focus on the semiconductor optics, including those commonly used photon sources and detectors made by semiconductor materials. Finally, acousto-optics and electro-optics operation principles will be introduced to conclude the course.

Text books:
Fundamentals of Photonics, B.E.A. Saleh, and M.C. Teich
Introduction to Semiconductor Lasers, Wunan, 2008, ISBN 978-957-11-5299-8 (Chinese version 半導體雷射導論)
